How to be a hypocrite….

This is a post with which I’m treading on very dodgy ground, morally…. well.. ethically… anyway… um… yes…

A while back I was trawling through You Tube and found someone had used my Schrodinger Effect opening test theme as part of a Genesis of the Daleks trailer. I was rather flattered, but it bugged me that I hadn;t been asked, or indeed credited. I got in touch with the chap and he was as nice as pie about it.

Now I’ve just seen another youtube vid, this time using the Schrodinger Effect teaser (both tracks can be found in the staggering stories audio section – and one wil be updated shortly) to accompany a Johney Depp/Time War vid….a slightly butchered version of the piece at that.

Now, I KNOW I tend to use the odd little thing in the podcasts – Paddy Kingsland rocks, face facts here. Trouble is, I have NO idea how to get hold of him to ask if its ok. Technically I suppose I really shouldn’t use those little cues. The ‘Fake Paddy’ music in the recent h2g2 special was by Peter Wicks, and used with permission. Though I admit, I didn’t check with either the Eagles or Mark Ayres for the theme….Ill ask Mark next time I see him 😛 . But all the radiophonics I use for other pieces have been very carefully rebuilt, extracted, reconstituted with literally hundreds of man hours put into making them as best as possible. The guys behind them are truly talented. And as such, I always ask permission if I want to use them – for example in the Schrodinger Effect film that is finally being launched this saturday and will be avalible from then, or for the new DWO Whocast theme – I gave Trev the choice and he went for mine…poor, sad, deluded fool, lol..I’ll upload etc, the full version…

The actual film has a new version of the theme thats slightly different.

Anyway…for the record. If you want to use my music for a fan vid etc, all you have to do is get in touch and ask me, promising a credit (and preferably not butcher the piece – I remember one audio group ripped apart my ancient and very ropey version of the watcher’s theme from Logopolis). I know I am by no means the world’s best musician, lol… but I do have my pride and a certain reputation to uphold.
