  1. just a word about red dwarf. i liked it. ok so it ignored some of the last years of continuity and made the wful error of not having a Holly but it still looked great. The only thing I wanded to point out was that RD didnt traditionally use a Laughtrack. it was actually a live audiece. I know because I was there for the episode “justice”.

Im sure that this was phased out at the rise of the internet.

    cheers. Michael

ps. sorry you didnt get to see THE Bernard Cribins. guess he was off filming the end of tennants time

  2. wyn says:

Will post usual insane ramblings later, but just to let you know, it’s pronounced “Oh-wine”. Owain was the name of the last true Prince of Wales (Glyndwr) who led the last revolt against Longshanks in Wales. Watch out El Presidente!!

  3. Nathan B says:

Mine’s pronounced Nathan! But I’m guessing you knew that.
I enjoyed Red Dwarf but TDB is right – it needed Holly.I loved Planet of the Dead and it annoys me that Michelle thingy won’t be in it again.
What was that tune you played over Andy’s goodbye bt?
    Nathan

  4. wyn says:

Wasn’t it the closing music for Andy Pandy? “Time to go home”?
    Showing my age….

  5. so very glad to hear that we will be on the same pannel in September.

im sure we can bluff our way through!

  6. Michael, you got to see a Red Dwarf recorded live?! That must have been good – mind you, I’ve seen various things recorded live (Have I Got News for You, Bremner Bird & Fortune, The Friday (or was it still Saturday then?) Night Armistice and Game On. Never managed a Red Dwarf, though. I must say that some of them were quite hard work – you feel obliged to laugh all the time, even on the 2nd or 3rd retake (The Friday Night Armistice was by far the worst in that regard (though Armando Iannucci was quite good at surprising the audience in the retakes, more so than his co-presenters)).

As for Red Dwarf: Back to Earth, it was lacking a little because of the audience not being there. I’m not sure of the terminology but any mention of a Red Dwarf laughtrack by me was certainly meaning live audience laughter, as opposed to canned laughter. Perhaps they will do more Red Dwarf now and, if so, maybe they will have learnt their lesson and we might once again get the chance to see some live Dwarf!

Yeah, lots of corrections about the pronunciation of Owain. Oh-wine, it is then! Shame, I think Oh-wain (Oh-wayne?!) sounds kind of Arthurian!

Nathan, is that pronounced Nat-han? No? Shame, that sounds… just silly. No, Na-than is probably best! As for Holly, yes I agree with you both, Red Dwarf was certainly lacking a bit with Holly absent. Fortunately they left it open for him/her to return in any future Red Dwarf. Would have been nice to even have a short bit of Holly (as they did with Kristine Kochanski), perhaps right at the end he could have booted up, dazed and confused!

Yes, that music at the end was indeed the Watch With Mother/Andy Pandy “Time to Go Home” tune! I’m not nearly old enough to remember that but certain members of the Staggering Stories team might be..!

At for this panel in September, Fake Keith has been doing the correspondence over that. I think at least three of us should be there but I don’t know if it will be just her representing us on the panel itself. I could be persuaded to add myself as a second Staggering voice, if they so wish. Does anyone know the name of that convention (better still, a URL for it)?
