  1. Superb show as always. Listened on the way into work. Quick question. Can you tell us all the story of Pertwees head? Where did it come from? Is it the head he removed when he became Worzle Gummage?

  2. Nathan B says:

Had to Google Magpie – Fake Keith, you’re very strange!

Nice job again guys – this is fast becoming my favourite ‘cast!

  3. Hi chaps!

The story of the Head of Pertwee… Where did it come from? Somewhere beyond the stars, perhaps even beyond a sickness of imagination… Okay, it came from eBay! None of us have any idea of the true origins of The Head, though.

It all began, for us Staggering Stories people when a friend of ours stumbled across The Head on eBay and posted the link on our forum. You can see the thread here:

I thought I’d saved a copy of the ebay page somewhere but I can’t find it. That’s a shame. The Real Keith did find photos of (we presume) another copy of the Head of Pertwee. That suggests it wasn’t a one-off but a real piece of merchandise! There were also heads of Hartnell, Troughton, Baker (T) and Delgado’s Master… If anyone ever sees any of those for sale anywhere please let me know – the Head of Pertwee does get a little lonely when I’m at work! There may even be others in the series we don’t know about. Who made them?! Why would anyone want one, besides for comedic effect?! No idea whatsoever!

As for Magpie… I was slightly aware of this as a child. Though easily ancient enough to have watched it I don’t remember ever doing so. I think we were more of a BBC watching family than ITV. There was always a slightly down market feel to ITV, particularly their children’s TV. Probably just us being snobbish (and, perhaps, a desire to shield our young, impressionable, minds from the adverts!) We did watch Blue Peter a lot, though. So, I know of Magpie (and looked through an annual whilst waiting in the dentist once, I believe) but will have to leave it up to the others to actually say anything of substance about it! For all I knew perhaps Martin Shaw was in it!

That you both for your kind words. Makes us all feel good about ourselves!

Oh, and Tin Dog Bloke (now firmly outed as Michael!) great work on the WhoCast! 98 was great and 99 even better (glad your sound issues were sorted). I look forward to 100. Also look forward to more TDP, of course. Where do you find the time?!
